Why the Vantreight Hill Project?
How many reasons does one need before the development is stopped?
Is it time to prepare for the next municipal election in 2011?

Municipal Council Actions
-
While the last OCP was being prepared development on this knoll was considered and rejected despite the Vantreight family placing large ads in the paper to promote their vision. The ink was not dry on the OCP when yet another proposal came from the Vantreight family.
-
In an attempt to sway councils opinion the family has found a consultant to assist them in creating some new definitions such as population density of rural lands.
-
The staff and Central Saanich advisory council have both recommended the development not proceed. Normally their recommendations are used as a justification for developments; why are they being rejected in this matter?
- The municipality spent thousands of dollars on the OCP, considerable staff time and the residents volunteered countless hours to prepare the OCP, is all that time and energy to be wasted? Once again this input is used as a justification for developments; why are they being rejected in this matter? Should not the Vantreight family pay for the cost of preparing a new OCP if the current one is to be disregarded. Can residents choose the by-laws they wish to follow and ignore the rest?
-
Council members have referred to the site as unique – rather puzzling why council is prepared to remove the uniqueness of the site by allowing houses to be built. Yes this is a unique site, has there been a study done to determine whether there are any species at risk on the hillside. Is the project worth losing bio-diversity on the planet?
