Why the Vantreight Hill Project?
How many reasons does one need before the development is stopped?
Is it time to prepare for the next municipal election in 2011?

Studies Required and Other Concerns
-
Part of the land being used by the Vantreight Family to store and mix a variety of herbicides and pesticides etc. Typically these operations have a tendency to contaminate the ground to beyond the limits for residential use, has a study been done to determine that the land is with in the acceptable contamination level? A farm needs an area to do what could be termed their “industrial operations”. Is the family using what is or was productive farm land for these operations now? It is my understanding (approximately 20 years ago) that Central Saanich staff on more than one occasion felt it necessary to report to the Police the Vantreight mishandling of these chemicals. On both occasions the police took action on at least one occasion the chemicals were seized.
- Considering the prominence of the hill in the local area does the hill has archeological significance, for instance was the hill top used as a place of refuge or look out by the area natives.
- Before this proposal reached this stage a number of studies should have been done on the site. The incomplete nature of the plan is a concern. Is there an assurance that if the development is approved it will be completed in a timely manner? Will the lack of one of these studies delay the development after it is underway? A partially completed development waiting to be completed for years is not acceptable to either those opposed to the development or the proponent of the development.
